Betsy at the dining room window where, in late April of 1865, her great-grandfather Dr. Richard Haywood, General Blair and General Sherman drank a toast to the end of the Civil War, just after the Army of Tennessee's 96,000 troops surrendered to Sherman at Bennett Place, just west of Durham.
